The inclusion of Amel Messaïd to the jury of WWCOTY means the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) market now has a specific representative.
Motoring journalist Amel Messaïd has joined the international team, the only car awards in the world comprised entirely of women who are experts with cars. Her inclusion now means Women’s World Car of the Year reaches 48 judges from 38 countries.
Amel Messaïd’s talent and sphere of interest is safety for classic cars and automobile maintenance. She is currently working for Canal Algerie, a public channel created for Algerians who are living abroad. Her program, Ca tient la route, is largely followed by Algerian people for its useful approach to cars and the variety of topics included.
According to The Arab Weekly, the Algerian automotive market is considered among the largest on the African continent with a top demand for 600,000 vehicles, which puts tremendous pressure on the public treasury by exposing it to severe foreign currency bleeding. The sector consumes about $6 billion a year in expenditure.
Algerian drivers are currently focused on utility cars more than premium automobiles because of the country’s economic situation. French, German and Koreans brands are currently capturing the most attention from customers. For these reasons, in the last decade the Algeria government has opted for the assembly strategy to reduce the cost of imports.
