Helene Schmidt, from Auto Bild Germany, joins Women’s World Car of the Year

The journalist currently works testing and driving all different types of car around the world for her magazine.

Motoring journalist Helene Schmidt, from AUTO BILD Germany, has joined Women’s World Car of the Year. She currently works testing and driving all different types of car around the world for her magazine. With her appointment, Women’s World Car of the Year rises 44 journalists from 35 different countries.

Helene Schmidt was born in the German State Baden-Württemberg, the birthplace of the automobile. Her passion to write about cars began in Stuttgart and Karlsruhe where she studied “History of technology”. During her time at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology she got the chance to write her thesis in cooperation with Porsche.

AUTO BILD, where she works, was first published on 1986 on a weekly basis. The magazine with its worldwide licensed editions, of which more than seven million copies are sold every month, is published in 36 countries.

«The most exciting thing of my job as a motor journalist is to sit behind the wheel of a car, I haven’t driven before. No day is like the other. Always I meet interesting people and I see interesting cars. For me as a woman working as a motoring journalist is the best job in the world» she says.

The automotive industry in Germany is one of the largest employers in the world, with a labor force of over 857,336 working in the industry. It has the fourth-highest car production in the world, behind United States, China and Japan. With an annual output close to six million and a 31.5% share of the European Union.
